Am I really almost a former?

Well believe it or not, I am almost completely done with my reign as Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen. It’s way too crazy for me to comprehend, so I’m silently pretending it’s not happening. Oblivion is a pretty chill thing, and I plan on being oblivious until the weekend of. Just kidding (sorta). I am actually very busy prepping for my farewell weekend. Being an outgoing titleholder is harder than you’d think! So since I am still so young, I have quite a bit of time until I am old enough to compete for a Miss title. You may be asking “What ever will she do with herself for the next couple years?”. Well, I’m so glad you asked. After the 2015 pageant, I have spring break, and I am going to the U.S. Capital with my youth group to go lobbying. After that, my best friends and I are going to Orlando for a couple days to celebrate my sweet sixteen (thanks dad!). Then come many other small projects and fun things to occupy my title-less self. No doubt in my mind, I will be back (cue organ music).

So to sum up the point of this post, sorry I didn’t really use this blog during my reign. I plan on using it more now simply because I will need some form of social media that I can make really long posts about when I’m doing some cool after-the-crown projects.

I would give you a countdown of how many days I have until this journey’s over, but I’m being oblivious, remember?

Carpe Diem, my friends.

3 days until Florida!

The past few days have been crazzzzyyyyy, and the ones coming up will be just so. I have had a tv interview, spoke on two radio stations, spent time volunteering at my library, and have started major packing for MAOT. I am exhausted, but I’m beyond excited to put all my hard work to good use!
Everyone’s good luck wishes, and kind words from my state have made this all the more of an amazing experience. I will have my phone taken away for the 8 days during the pageant, so this will most likely be my last blog post until after my trip.

Wish me luck!!

Exciting News

So clearly from the title I have some exciting news! My next door neighbor is a librarian, and I am always helping her at the library if she asks. The other day, she called me and asked if I would like to have my own class since I had told her about my new title. I of course said yes, and it’s official!!
Thursday, August 21st from 2-3pm, I will be reading to any kids who join the class, talking about the importance of reading, and just having fun! It’s been too long since I’ve read to a group, and it’s one of my favorite things about my platform, so I’m super excited.

Just wanted to give that little update. Thanks everyone! šŸ™‚

On Cloud Nine…

I am your Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen 2014.

So sorry I haven’t been blogging in the longest time, but I have a good reason, I swear. I am so incredibly honored to have captured the title of MNYOT 2014Ā this past May, and I have been busy ever since preparing for the national pageant this July/August! All my hard work with my local teen title paid off, and I am so thankful for my amazing support system, who is still supporting me on my journey to Orlando, Florida for Nationals!! I’ve been to New York City a bunch of times since being crowned, and I become more in love with it every time. My checklist is almost complete, and I feel so blessed to have been put on this path.

On a side note, I believe I am most excited to meet the other gorgeous state titleholders! We are all already connecting on social media, and truly everyone seems so sweet. Roommates are yet to be known, but a notice should come any day now! And right after the competition is over, my family and I will be spending 3 extra days in Florida to go to Disney (of course), and Universal Studios to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. If you know me, you’d know that I am more than a little excited to see this.

Well once again, thank you for your support, and I will be blogging much more now that things have calmed down. XoXo šŸ™‚

Countdown / Update Post

2 days until Miss New York…

Ā  So it’s been a long journey to get to the final few hours before the Miss New York competition, but it’s finally here! Bad news is that I’m feeling extraordinarily sick right now, but hopefully by Friday morning I will be feeling good as new. Almost everything is packed (almost…) and bright and early tomorrow morning we will be on our way to Staten Island!

Ā  In other updates because I haven’t blogged in so long, I have two exciting events I participated in. The Lilac Festival Parade was the first event, and was so much fun! Myself, Miss Flower City, and the Miss Flower City Princess all rode in a bright red Camaro in the parade. Rochester is known as the “flower city” for our gorgeous lilacs all over the city, soĀ naturally we had to be a part of this amazing event! Image

Ā  About a week after the parade,Ā I got to be apart of another fun opportunity. The Teen Book Festival at Nazareth College is a huge event, much bigger than I ever would have thought! Dozens of authors, and hundreds of teens all got to do autograph signings, ask questions, and go to classrooms to hear the individual authors talk about their lives as writers, how they got inspiration for their books, and just about everything in between! I got to meet and hear one of my all time favorite authors Simone ElkelesĀ talk about her books, and she was probably one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. She definitely inspired me, and I am considering taking a creative writing class next year, and starting a novel of my own. Anyways, I had a ton of fun, and can’t wait until next years festival!Image

Little Readers

Day at the Rochester VOA Children’s Center

Over my spring break, I had the opportunity to read to, play with, andĀ speak toĀ kids of all ages. This was by far the most positive experience of my reign! The children and even pre-teens who are at the center have low income families, and the center gives these kids a safe and fun environment to stay at while their families can’t be with them. These kids in the photo above were preschoolers, ages 4-6, and were absolutely adorable! I read a couple of books to them, and they learned how Queen Cady (what they called me!) loved reading. IĀ hope they will rememberĀ how even Queens loveĀ to read, and maybe we will see some pageant princesses in the future! šŸ™‚

Countdown…

Countdown…

53 Days!

So since people keep asking, I will clarify, becauseĀ it is super close, and very important! Miss New York and the Teen Pageant is over memorial day weekend in Staten Island, at the St. George Theater. I will do countdowns here and there. Feels like it’s tomorrow, with so much to do! This weekend is the workshop for both the teen and miss contestants, and I could not be more excited! So this post wasn’t exactly related to my platform, but I thought these countdown posts would be fun. Hope everyone has a great week! šŸ™‚

Meeting Miss America 2013

All while modeling and wearing classic Indian attire…

So a past adventure I experienced during my reign so far this year, was modeling Indian attire at Miss America 2013, Nina Davaluri’s, homecoming in Syracuse, NY! She’s quite possibly the most well spoken individual I have ever met, and I aspire to be as caring, smart, and talented as she is. This was way back in 2013, seems like forever ago now, but it was justĀ a few months ago. Will be seeing her soon within the next two months, at Miss New York, in Staten Island.

A Little Introduction

Miss Flower City’s Outstanding Teen 2014

Hi readers!

My name is Cady Ruth, and I am the current Miss Flower City’s Outstanding Teen 2014, a teen of a local organization of the Miss America Organization. My reign actually began a couple of months ago, and I am only now truly starting my blog now, but rest assured, I will fill in the time between then and now. My platform is “Growth Through Literacy” and it focuses on bringing literacy and the power of reading into children’s’ and teen’s lives. Reading is my absolute favorite past-time, and it tears my heart up thinking that other teens and kids may not have the chance to read just because they don’t have the resources in their lives. I have donated thousands of books to various organizations and schools that are in need of all types of reading material.
